Our Community Involvement:
The Wash House is one of 14 community based
businesses that have agreed to work with a special class of 8th
grade students at the Knollwood middle school in Fair Haven. The class is called FH Leads, a capstone
class for its innovation and technology program. The program is designed to expose students to
entrepreneurship, careers and running a small business while giving back to our
community by pairing up students with real business owners.
Watch our website for updates to the
Fair Haven Leads program as the school year gets underway and the students warm up with
their first assignment at Riverview hospital.
Update 10/18/2017: We will be meeting with the dedicated team of students at Knollwood School in the first week of December. We will share with them our business goals to get the process started as the students begin to work with the various challenges that the local businesses present.
The FHBA Leads project is well underway and this last
week the participating business owners got to meet with the students. We had a chance to tell them about our business
and by the end of my first meeting Sasha and Sophie they suggested that I add
the Instagram app to our webpage, which we did and it is now posted on our
site. Follow our progress on Instagram
and tell us what you think. On our
second meeting was just as exciting : we
were introduced to Jack, Luke, Chris and Matthew (a very enthusiastic team)
from the FH Leads Project. They asked
lots of questions and while Luke drilled down to some core issues, Jack was
finding potential sources that could resolve the challenge. In between, Chris was checking for feedback
on social media apps and thinking about ways we could become more engaged with
our community via Facebook, Yelp, and Instagram. The teams will continue to work for and with
each participating business over the next 11 weeks and provide each business
with a number of options to approach the
challenges presented. We will keep you
updated on our progress in the weeks ahead.
In the meantime work continues at THE WASH HOUSE with demolition and
reconstruction of a new roof line that will be followed by the final phase: a
new facade (see photos below). Please be assured that we
will be open for business throughout the entire process. Thank you for your continued business over
this last year... It's been challenging but rewarding as well. Wishing all of our customers a happy holiday
and a prosperous New Year.
The facade work is just about finished . Hope you like the improvements which we are
continuing on the inside with new benches and a fresh new floor look that is
expected to be complete by March 15th - and the the beginning of Spring. To let out customers know how much we
appreciate their loyalty , we began to
offer free coffee and donuts on the weekends and have continued with
complimentary coffee Monday - Friday.
